A Naturalistic Wildlife-Friendly Garden
This naturalistic wildlife-friendly garden in Cornwall demonstrates how ecological planting and refined horticulture can work together to create beauty, resilience and biodiversity.
The main borders were replanted with predominantly perennials and ornamental grasses to achieve a light, flowing structure that feels relaxed yet intentional. The planting scheme provides long-lasting habitat and nectar sources for pollinators and invertebrates, while remaining visually elegant throughout the seasons.
This project reflects the wider ethos behind my ecological and wildlife gardening services: gardens designed to support nature while remaining manageable, climate-resilient and appropriate to their setting.
The borders are designed around strong seasonal succession.
Early spring begins with primroses and forget-me-nots, complemented by azaleas and rosemary for structure and evergreen presence. These are followed by geraniums, scutellarias, salvias and pennisetums — species selected not only for movement and softness, but for their ability to thrive in increasingly hot, dry Cornish summers.
